EMC Clariion Health Check Service Offering
Project Overview:
The BL Trading Clariion Health Check is a limited technical assessment of an existing Clariion array. The service delivers a system evaluation focused on ensuring that your system is configured appropriately and performance is fine tuned. The resulting information will deliver recommendations on any known interoperability issues, capacity, a review of the current array performance, and a best practices review of the array configuration. The customer receives a Final Report that includes identified storage configuration and performance deficiencies along with recommended corrections and recommendations for improvements to the current configuration.
Project Scope:
BL Trading Certified EMC Engineers work closely with the customer staff to perform the engagement. BL Trading manages the project as follows:
- Conduct meeting to confirm and document goals of the Health Check
- Review of the customer environment and documentation of targeted systems
- Perform a Health Check in a single site
- Monitor & extract configuration and performance data from a single Clariion array
- Extract connectivity and configuration data from up to 8 hosts
- Extract connectivity and configuration data from up to 2 Fibre Channel switches (32 Port total)
- Review analysis & provide recommendations based on Best Practices
Discovery:
The following information will be collected for review:
- Storage Processor event logs
- Storage Processor configuration logs
- Switch Configuration & Event logs
- SAN related host information
- Operating System & Service Pack
- HBA Driver Revision
- HBA Firmware
- Failover Software versions & Path Status Information
- Navisphere Agent/CLI Versions
- Event Logs (varies based on Operating System
Analysis:
The following will be analyzed:
- Storage Processor Event Logs – Array related events that affect the productivity of the DPE & DAE devices
- Storage Processor Configuration Logs – Potential device configuration issues, array based software revisions and host connectivity status as seen by the array
- Switch Configuration & Event Logs – Port by port review looking for error counters that would indicate a failure or potential failure on devices outside of the host or DPE (i.e.: cables, SFP’s/GBIC’s or internal switch related hardware)
- SAN Related Host Information – Analysis of SAN related software revisions, path status, event logs (i.e.: HBA Driver, failover software, device timeouts on SAN based LUN’s or Read/Write events on SAN based LUN’s)
Service Delivery:
The Health Check process will include a software update of the SAN with the customers consent. The software & firm updates may include:
- Navisphere Manager
- Navisphere Agent
- Array Based Code/Flare Code
- Host Operating System (will only be upgraded if revision compliance is necessary)
- HBA Driver
- HBA Firmware
- Switch Firmware
Optional Updates based on customer acquisition of the following:
- PowerPath/ATF
- SnapView
- MirrorView
- SAN Copy
- Navisphere Analyzer
BL Engineer will verify the following:
- Storage Array has successfully rebooted and is functional
- All LUN’s/Virtual Disks are fully visible to the appropriate hosts
- All configured paths to the storage are available
